Sunderland boss confirms midfield duo close to signing, and one likely to leave

Sunderland boss confirms midfield duo close to signing

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that the club are close to signing two midfielders, with one likely to leave the club.

The Black Cats have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, including Corry Evans, George Dobson and Alex Pritchard. Mowbray has now revealed that two players are close to agreeing deals with the club.

The Sunderland boss has also confirmed that one midfielder is likely to leave the club before the end of the transfer window. The player in question has not been named, but it is believed to be Luke O'Nien.

One likely to leave

O'Nien has been with Sunderland since 2019, and has made over 100 appearances for the club. However, he has fallen out of favour under Mowbray, and has not started a game in the league this season.

The 29-year-old is understood to be keen to leave Sunderland in search of regular first-team football. He has been linked with a move to League One side Portsmouth.

Midfield duo close to signing

Sunderland are close to signing two midfielders, with one likely to leave the club. The players in question have not been named, but it is believed to be Corry Evans and George Dobson.

Evans is a 33-year-old Northern Ireland international who is a free agent after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season. Dobson is a 25-year-old who is currently playing for Fleetwood Town.

The signing of two midfielders would be a significant boost to Sunderland's squad. The Black Cats have been short of options in midfield this season, and the addition of Evans and Dobson would add some much-needed depth and quality.
