Jacob Duffy Nottinghamshire Sign New Zealander Seamer On Loan

Jacob Duffy: Nottinghamshire signs New Zealander seamer on loan

Nottinghamshire has made its first overseas signing of the winter, with New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy joining on loan from Canterbury.

The 26-year-old will link up with the Trent Bridge squad ahead of the 2023 season, subject to international clearance.

Duffy is a right-arm fast bowler who has represented New Zealand at A and Under-19 level. He has also played for the New Zealand A side and was part of the Black Caps squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, although he did not play a game.

At the domestic level, Duffy has been a consistent performer for Canterbury in New Zealand's Plunket Shield first-class competition. In the 2021-22 season, he took 35 wickets at an average of 22.97, including two five-wicket hauls.

Duffy is expected to play a key role for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship next season. He will add depth to the county's bowling attack, which already includes Stuart Broad, Luke Fletcher, and Dane Paterson.

"Jacob is a very exciting young bowler who has the potential to be a real asset to our squad," said Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores.

"He has a good track record in New Zealand and has also impressed at international level. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him develop his game further."

Duffy is the first overseas signing made by Nottinghamshire since the departure of Australian batsman Chris Lynn in 2020.
